Flagstaff Area ATV Club Meeting

Welcome

    • Ride to Tim Pond is scheduled for Saturday July 12th rain or shine as always vehicles are o.k. for people that do not want to ride ATV’s. This is for lunch.  As of now we have 33 people saying they are going. I need numbers so I can call them.   Please call me 246-5946 no later then July 7th.
    • We have a second Club Ride scheduled for Saturday Aug 23th to Rangeley to go to
    • riding day with us.
    • Request was made to purchase three  6 ft folding tables to be used at Family Fun Days and Land Owner Picnic. Motion made and carried to purchase.
    • Received a Thank You letter from Sugarloaf Marathon Race Director for our donation.
    • Family Fun Days Theme is Disney Parade. This is 28th of June. Parade will gather at the CMP building at 10:00 for those who wish to participate.

    • We are looking good so far this month compared to last year at this time. We have $1,300.00 more in our savings account.
    • Deposits were $1,188.00   Paid out:  Permit for Penobscot Nation $50.00, Donations $400.00, ATV of Maine Membership $1,360.00, State Annual Report Fee $50.00.
    • We did well at the May 24th Flagstaff tent sale.  We sold over $128.00 in clothes and we gave out two applications for memberships.  Last June we had 109 members, as of now we are up to 123 members.    Awesome Member   Thank You!!!    We will be having tables at the Family Fun Days Saturday June 28th.  Please stop by to say Hi and try our Strawberry Shortcake and Fried Dough.  Hope to see you at the next meeting July 12th on the Tim Pond Camp Ride.

    • Excavator is still in for repairs.   When we get it we will be working on fixing the bad spots.
    • Sparky from the Penobscot Nation has agreed to permit us the use of the a couple miles to make our loop around Tim Pass Loop. Only until Sept. 1st Monday Labor Day.
    • May 18th– Elaine and I worked the Lake Loop trail cutting trees 5hrs.
    • May 19th –Did signage 3 hrs.
    • May 20th-Carl and I did signage on the Tim Pass Loop to Turkey corner 5hrs.
    • May 21st– Don, Carl, Elaine and I did Tim Pass Loop, cleaned trail from a logging blockage 9hrs.
    • May 22- Carl, Elaine and I checked the Canyon loop, Swamp trail and Harris Pasture. Need to work on culvets in this area 3 hrs.
    • May25- Jeff, Joyce, Elaine and I road the Natanis trail. Hill is very rocky. Antler Hill was very very wet . We closed Bradbury Brook, logging still working in this area 9hrs.
    • May 31- Jeff, Joyce, Elaine and I cut trees again on the Lake Loop. Did signage, patched a culvert and cut trees on Butler Brook trail 5 hrs.
    • June 1- Don, Dick, and I did signage on the Sawyer Brook trail and Plum Creek Rd. 4hrs.
    • June 6- Don, Carl, and I put the new Brochu Bridge Sign up. 1 hr.
    • June 6- Don, Carl, Elaine and I did the bone yard trail to Carrabassett  Rt 27 trail, patched up a culvert, needs work on a bad rocky spot/bridge area. One bridge is flipped over. Need to widen bridge by  Rt 27th.    7hrs
    • June 7th– Carl and I went to Sawyer Brook and hand filled a ditch. 2hrs

 

MAY MINUTES

Flagstaff Area ATV Club Meeting

  • Summer Rec program asked if we could do an ATV ride for the kids.  The club decided that a donation would be better since most club members live out of town and organizing a ride would be hard.  Motion was made and carried to give the program $300
  • Thank you letter was received from the Pine Tree Society for donation
  • Request for donation for Family Fun Days Motion Made and carried to donate $100
  • Ride an ATV for you age (posted by the State of Maine for for information)   Age 6 and under 70cc, age 12 and under 70-90 cc, age 16 and older 90cc  State law, no child under 16 yeas old can cross a road on and ATV.  An adult must take the ATV across.  This is State Law.
  • Member Kelsea Adams is planning a fundraising ATV Trail Ride from Natanis Point Campground on July 26 in honor of a local child who has be diagnosed with Krabbe Disease.  Contact her at 207-779-6203 or taska.adams#myfairpoint.com.  Also posters have been circulated around the area.
  • The annual club ride will be Saturday July 12.  It will be lunch at Tim Pond Camps.  If your are interest, please contact Don Plante to let him know for a head count.
  • Discussion on a ride midweek was discussed. If any member is interested, please let Don know.  We would love to plan rides to meet our members needs.
  • Lobster Raffle tickets are out.  Please see any member to buy yours as they are going fast.
  • Dale Dunlap won the 50/50 raffle this month and donated the money back to the club.

  • As for our checking account, we are ahead by a few hundred dollars from last year.  What we paid out in bills and donations was $531.oo and our deposits from membership dues and new line of clothing is $1085.00
  • We are doing very well with our new line of clothing.  Last month we sold over $200 and placed a new order from the last month meeting.
  • We got 3 new members this month and  one was a sponsor.  As of today’s date we have 110 members.  Last year at this time we had 96 members.  We are doing better so far this season.  We had 29 sponsors last year as of new we have had one cancel and 4 new sponsors making our total paid sponsors at 23.  We are mailing our 40 newsletters out of 109 members.
  • Want to thank all the renewals for rejoining again.
  • All packets are being mailed out around May 22-23……Ride safe and enjoy

  • Gates to Brochu Bridge have been locked until official trail opening.
  • Plum Creek loggers had blocked Tim Pass Loop Trail.  We will work on this to get the trail opened this week.
  • Salt Shed trail bridge had been fixed temporarily with timers
  • Campground Trail to us has been cleared.
  • No work on the Tea Pond Loop
  • Kennebago Perimeter Trail had been turned down from Wagner.
  • Billion Pines closed section 20 trail
  • Excavator to be repaired this week
  • Tim Pass Loop has been cleaned up.
  • Looking forward to opening most of our trails by Memorial weekend.  UPDATE:  Trails will not be open until May 31.
  • Members please pass the word that no 2 wheel vehicles will be allowed on AFM or Plum Creek trails per landowner request.

  • Ray Charest is in the hospital……………..Best wishes to Ray and please get well soon.
  • Oquossoc has formed it’s own club.  Please help support them and like their Facebook page.

APRIL MINUTES

Flagstaff Area ATV Club Meeting

  • The May meeting will be back at the Community Building as the refinishing of the floor will be done.  The May meeting is Sunday, May 18th at 10 am.
  • Please mark you calendars for the following dates:  May 24 Flagstaff Fuel celebration,  June 28 for Family Fun Days, September 13 will be set aside for Landowner Appreciation and club member picnic at Cathedral Pines Campground.
  • Lobster Raffle tickets will be coming out soon.  Please look for them in your package.
  • MEMBER ALERT!  Your renewal package may not be sent out until the end of May.  We are working on landowner approval of trails and print the maps for your package.  As soon as we have it even if it is earlier we will get it promptly out to members.
  • Please tell your friends that ride dirt bikes or motorcycles, landowners have informed State Officials that the do not want them on their land no matter how the machine is registered.
  • Club members voted to pay one half of the cost to replace the Brochu Bridge sign that was vandalized.  The snowmobile club will pay for the other half of the sign.
  • Club members voted to pay for the following expenses:  Sugarloaf Marathon Charitable Trust $100, Website $200, Post Box rent $34 and Pine Tree Society $100.

  • Members voted to allow Sandi to put a club history on the website to educate people about our landowners and the trails.

  • Treasurer:  The club is doing well with the renewals coming in and no expenses other than our membership dues and the postal box rent and the Community Building cost.
  • Membership:  As of today we have 92 members.  Last year at this time we had 62 members.
  • We have 12 members that have volunteered to help with trail work.  Joe Marcoux will call when help is needed
  • Out of 92 members, we are sending out 34 newsletters.
  • We have received over 100 postage stamps.  This is very much appreciated and thank you.
  • Our members are awesome. We have received over $425 in money donations.  Again awesome and thank you.

MARCH 2014 MINUTES

  • Thank you Dick Smith for all of your hard work!  Due to health issue, Dick is now the new trail advisor/assistant.  Joe Marcoux has stepped up to be our new trail master.
  • Don went to Rangeley to check on the excavator it has not been worked on yet.
  • All club memberships have been mailed or hand delivered.
  • Don contacted Rev-It-Up concerning Rangeley trails.  More discussion to follow.
  • Possibility of a club ride to Moose Alley for this summer was dicussed.
  • Lobster Raffle tickets will be sold to benefit the club again this year
  • Tim Pond ride was discussed.  A date for the lunch ride will be finalized later
  • June 28th is Family Fun Days  We will serve Strawberry Shortcake once again along with new sweatshirts, t-shirts, windbreakers, hats and vests.
  • Memorial Day events will be held at Flagstaff General Store on Saturday May 24th.  We will have a table with club membership and club items also for purchase.
  • The Club also voted to host a future ATV Maine meeting.  Date will be announced.
  • Club voted to make a proposal to the Penobscot Nation for use of the 2 miles of trail on their land.
  • Thank you to the Club for donations to the  “Toy Ride”, Christmas PTC Fair and the Lac Megantic Disaster Fund and Dick and Ruth Ann Smith.
  • The Club voted to rejoin the Flagstaff Area Business Association.
  • Voted also to pay the Town of Eustis for use of the hall and copying.

  • Club voted to host Landowners Appreciation Dinner at Cathedral Pines Campground in September
  • 50/50 raffle.  3 tickets for $2.00 will be held at each meeting.  The winner of each of those meeting raffles will be put into a hat for a Grand Prize of a Gift Certificate from all the local businesses.

  • We are starting the year with approximately the same amount as last year.
  • Memberships have been mailed to over 163 renewals and invite letter on February 28th.  Don hand delivered 12 to local buinnesses
  • As stated in the invite letter I will mail out the Membership card, stickers and updated maps on the first week of May.
  • Our new clothes are in and selling very well with the local members.  We will sell them at monthly meetings and Family Fun Day in June.

The first renewal for 2014 came in on November 14, 2013.  As of today we have 40 members.  The breakdown is 3 new businesses, 5 business renewals and 32 membership renewals.  At the meeting 9 renewals came in to add to the total.

  • Due to the difficult winter I have experienced it is with deepest regrets that I have to step down from the Trailmaster position. I will however be on hand to do Landowner relations, maps, grant paperwork and anything else that does not require strenuous activity. I am looking forward  to a great season knowing that we all can work together to continue to make our club the success we have enjoyed in the past.

 

OCTOBER 2013 MINUTES

Flagstaff Area ATV Club Meeting

Meeting was brought to order at 10 am by President Don Plante.

  • The club thanked Elaine and Joe Marcoux on the increase in business sponsors.  Club also thanked the membership for making the club that we have.  The landowners were also thanked because without them there would not be a club or area to ride.
  • Expensive repairs were made to equipment this year.  The club side by side was $2075.00.  The excavator has two separate leaks and members voted to have this looked at and get an estimate.  This will be done at Haggan’s in Farmington.
  • Members voted to give the toy ride $100 as we have done in previous years. Also voted was $100 donation for the annual Holiday Fair at the Stratton School.
  • I talked to the president and trail master of the Arnold Trail Snowmobile Club and things are ready to begin on the North Branch Bridge.  The club will pay for half of the cost of the I-Beam.  The cost of the two I-Beams, 16 feet long is $6,800 and the club approved and voted to pay $3,400.  Per the wishes of the club, this will be the total amount the club will give the ATSC for repairs of the bridge.  A check will be made as soon as an invoice is received.
  • Elections of officers was conducted.  The following persons were elected.  Re-elected Don Plante, President, Sandy Isgo, Vice President, Richard Smith, Trail Master, Elaine Marcoux, Membership and Newly elected Treasurer.
  • Meeting Dates were set for the 2014 monthly meetings as follows:  March 9, April 13, May 18, June 8, July 13, August 10, September 14, October 12.  All meetings will be held at the Community Building at 10 am.
  • It was also voted to send a thank you to Mike and Julie Fergerson of Rev-it-up in Rangeley on the work of trails and working with the surrounding clubs.
  • The club also thanked Peter and Nancy Wagner for taking care of the Website and Facebook page for posting minutes, special announcements .and information.  I have talked to Peter and he has accepted to be the advisor for another year.

  • Sept 9th & 12th   I talked with Plum Creek and Trans Canada on access for a new trail. The Alder Stream situation has made it necessary to
    look in another direction.
  • Sept 14th & 15th   I walked AFM and Wagner land looking for possibilities.
  • Sept 15th & 22nd   I put 2 signposts back into the ground, ditched and put in waterbars on the Tea Pond Trail.
  • Sept 25th   I went to the Flagstaff Rd and drained and filled holes.
  • Sept 26th   I finished filling holes on Flagstaff Rd. and went to Butler Brook and worked on ditches.
  • Oct 1st   I went to the gravel pit at the end of our trail into Stratton and cleaned up the broken bottles, cans, tires and rubbish. This is
    the reason that AFM put the gate at the beginning of the road. ( This part of the road is not even part of our trail, it just seemed like the right thing to do.)
  • Oct 3rd   I went to the End Of The Lake Trail, hauled in planking, fixed a few holes, repaired a box culvert and put planks over ditches.
  • Oct 4th   I went back to the End Of The Lake and rebuilt the bridge, and filled holes.
  • Oct 11th   I hauled planking in to rebuild the big culvert at End Of The Lake Trail.

  • The total membership for 2013 was 29 businesses and 116 members bringing us to a total of 145 members.
  • Newsletters for next year will only be mailed to members that don’t have computers as the cost of stamps will be going up again.
  • We will be placing and order for ATV clothing by December 1, 2013.  We have hats, vest, pocket t-shirts, long sleeve t-shirts and nylon windbreakers, pullover w/hood and pouch and full zippered hooded sweatshirts.  If anyone would like any items please call me at 207-229-2055 or email me at erm@myfiarpoint.net before November 15, 2013.
  • I want to thank you all for your support in allowing me this year of learning the membership representative position.  I have enjoyed it a lot and will continue to work hard again next year.

SEPTEMBER 2013 MINUTES

Flagstaff Area ATV Club Meeting

Our September meeting was held at Cathedral Pines Campground during the Land owner and members picnic.

  • A get together for land owners and club members which was located on Site #1 off Eustis Ridge Rd was enjoyed by all.  I want to thank all the members that helped to put this event together by helping to set up and furnish the food, there was plenty to eat.
  • The club members thanked the land owners for allowing trail access to their property.  They were told that without their support there wouldn’t be a trail system like we have.
  • We are very sad to learn about Mike and Julie Ferguson resigning as president and vice president of the Rangeley ATV Club.  Both were very dedicated to the sport.
  • The next meeting will be October 13 at the Community Building at 10 am.  This will be our last meeting of the year and it’s also election of officers.  Anyone interested in running for one of these positions please submit your name and position wanted to Don Plante at 246-5946 or email at damp@tds.net
  • One of the agenda items for the next meeting is buying more hats and shirts.  Color is also on the topics.
  • On the bridge across the North Branch, the only information that we have is that the I-beams are being fabricated and should be ready sometime this month.  More information will be presented as I get it.
  • From our membership person, Elaine Marcoux, we have 144 members.  She has also revised our membership form for next season.
  • The club welcomed game warden Scott Stevens for being present and his comments commending ATVers in our area.

  • August 14th   I went to Barnard pond and replaced the bridge.
  • August 15th   I picked up planking on the Pines trail and cut cribbing for the Tea Pond trail.
  • August 16th   Ruthann and I brushed out the Bradbury Brook trail.
  • August 18, 19 and 20th   I took a telephone pole out to the culvert on Butler Brook and ditched and filled ruts.
  • August 21st   Don and Joe picked up and stacked the lift of lumber.
  • August 25th   Don, Joe and I put in 2 box culverts on Butler Brook.
  • August 27, 28 and 29th I did 5 sections of boardwalk on the Tea Pond trail.
  • August 30 and 31st   I finished the boardwalk and planking the bridge on the Tea Pond trail.
  • September 2nd   I took down all the signs on the Billion Pines land in the Nash Stream area. That area is now closed except for the main trail to Rangeley.

AUGUST 2013 MINUTES

Meeting was brought to order by President Don Plante

A impromptu meeting was held at the Tim Pond Camps before lunch for our August meeting.  Our meeting minutes follow:

  • Thank you to all for participating on our club ride to Tim Pond Camps  Approximately 46 people attended and had a wonderful lunch as usual.
  • Motion was made and passed to write a letter of support for the application for TIF funds requested by FABA.
  • Letter has been written and signed by the officers of the club stating that we are going into partnership with the ATSC on repair of the bridge crossing the North Branch River.  This is the ATV trail that goes to Natantis Campground and the ATSC trail that runs to the border.  This letter will be added to the grant for TIF funds that is being submitted by the snowmobile club.
  • Motion was made and passed to pay bill to ATV Maine for liability insurance on the club.
  • Motion was made and passed to transfer $1000.00 to the trail fund account
  • September 7th is the land owners and club picnic.  It will be held on Site #1 at Cathedral Pines Campground.  The site is located on Eustis Ridge Rd on the right hand side.  We will have hot dogs, chicken and spare ribs along with salads and desserts.  Lunch will be served around noon.
  • As of this meeting we have a total of 137 members.

Trail Report

  • July 14th   Lee, Ray and Nancy worked on filling washouts on the Natanis trail.
  • July 17th   I went up to Natanis and started ditching, draining and pulling rocks.
  • July 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st   Lee, Ray and I worked on filling washouts, ditching, putting waterbars and pulling rocks on the Natanis
    trail.
  • July 25th   The Plum Creek Forester asked me to fix washouts and put in waterbars on the End of the Lake trail.
  • July 26th   I went to the Tea Pond trail and did 2 sections of boardwalk. I got a $100 donation for the club from Mike Wilson and family for assisting them on the trail.
  • July 27th   I worked on 1/2 of the Split Rock trail pulling rocks and draining.
  • July 28th   I went back to the Split Rock trail and redid waterbars and ditches.
  • July 29th and 31st  I graded and pulled rocks, put in 2 ditches and refreshed waterbars on the Eustis trail.
  • August 1st   I went to the dump road, filled holes and pulled rocks.
  • August 2nd and 3rd   I spread gravel on the Stratton powerline.
  • August 4th   I went to the Tim Pond end of the Split Rock trail and ditched, pulled rocks and put in waterbars.
  • August 6th   I put in a culvert on the Stratton powerline and Lee brushed on the Natanis trail.

  • A big thank you to everyone that helped on Family Fun Days.  You all did a great job
  • Elizabeth Remson of Good Dog Firewood won the Lobster Raffle.  Congratulations!
  •  Nancy and Peter Wagner along with Ollie LaChapelle won parade trophies.
  • We need a count for the Club ride on August 10 to Tim Pond. All ATV riders are welcome. The cost is $10 per person fee is for lunch.  Please call Don Plante at 246-5946.  9 am at Stratton Parking Lot and 9:30 in Eustis Parking Lot
  • Landowner and Member Picnic is September 7th at Cathedral Pines Campground.  Bob Dennett has graciously offered to be the “grill master” for the event.  We will have red hot dogs, pork ribs, split chicken for food.
  • A motion was made and seconded to donate $200 for “Bikes for Books” program.
  • Motion was made and seconded to send a $400 donation to the people of Lac Megantic.

  • We are doing pretty well for this time of year compared to last year.

  • We have 6 new members and 16 renewals for a total of 22 more memberbers from last month.  We are now at total of 131 members
  • 77 of these member are receiving the newletter by email.
  • All of our sponsors have renewed for another year.  Thank you sponsors!  We now have 29 sponsors and still checking on new ones.

  • June 9th   Don, Marianne, Joe, Elaine, Bob, Sally and Joe Gallant rode Northwest Inlet and cleared brush and trees.
  • June 11th   I picked up the excavator piston at a cost of $348.95.
  • June 12th   I went to Brochu Bridge trail and graded and pulled rocks.
  • June 13th   Took the piston back to Strong to be rebuilt again.
  • June 15th   Neal and I guided 5 New York members, Richard and Barbara Blum and their 3 friends. They gave the club a $50 donation.
  • June 16th   Neal and I cleared blowdowns at Bradbury Brook and put up signs on Northwest Inlet.
  • June 20th   I took the excavator to the Tim Pond road crossing and filled the ruts on the Tim Pass Trail.
  • June 21st   I went to the Brochu Bridge Trail (SFT) and finished grading and ditching.
  • June 22st   Went to the Dump Rd and filled holes.
  • June 26th   I went to mile 6 on the Flagstaff Rd and graded. Don picked up debris on the Cathedral Pines Trail.
  • June 27th   I ditched the new snow trail off the Powerline to keep the ATV`s and trucks from using it. I started to fill the washout on the
    side road of Flagstaff Rd, mile 5. I signed the Flagstaff Bypass on the Butler Brook Loop. We are now using the road instead of the
    muddy bypass. Please respect this privilege.
  • June 29th was Fun Days.
  • June30th   I went to Butler Brook and smoothed the ruts on the mud trail. I then went to Nash Stream and reset a culvert. I got a call from a Penobscot Warden about a washout on the South Rd at Alder Stream. We went up and put up caution signs.
  • July 1st   I posted Antler Hill Rd CLOSED. I put in planks and ditched at Butler Brook.
  • July 2nd   Went out to mile 5 on the Flagstaff Rd fixed the washout.
  • July 4th  Neal and I closed the North Branch Bridge.
  • July 7th   I dressed up the washout at the back of John Morris`s parking lot and drained the water in the field. I then went to Nash stream the Shale Pit RD and buried a culvert.
  • July 8th   I went to Harris Pastures Rd and pulled rocks and graded. I told AFM that I closed the North Branch Bridge.
  • July 9th   I went to East Kennebago Rd and ditched, filled washouts and pulled rocks. Then went to Bradbury Brook Rd ditched and
    filled washouts.
  • July 10th   Went to Bradbury Brook put in planks and redug the pits. I picked up the hay.
  • July 11th   Don and I spread the hay on the mile 6 crossover trail on the Flagstaff Rd.
  • July 12th   I went to Natanis looking for a washout and found none. I then went to Tea Pond trail and replaced cribbing and planking on one section. I also filled ruts at the corner.
  • July 13th   I replaced cribbing and planking on the boardwalk of the Tea Pond trail. I then walked the excavator down the Eustis trail and pulled rocks.
