  • A washout created when two culverts on Tim Pass got plugged this winter has been fixed along with two wet holes that have been drained. Jim Brochu fixed the end of the trail that had gotten washed out making a ravine in it. He brought fill in from the sides and did water bars to keep it from happening again.
  •  Our biggest project this last month was replacing all the bad bridges on our section of the Carrabassett Trail from Plum Creek Road to Route 27. We spent a week taking down the old bridges and getting ready for the new. On June 22 and 23 we put out the HELP sign for volunteers to help to build the new bridges. We had 21 volunteers who worked on Saturday and 16 that worked on Sunday. Our youngest volunteer was 7 but not sure how old the oldest one was! By Sunday night the bridges were done. Total hours for Friday prep work, Saturday and Sunday were 396 hours. We provided lunch both days for our hard workers and they really appreciated it and the break it gave them. Hammond Lumber delivered the lumber and left some hats, pencils and note pads for the work crew.
  • The boardwalk on Sawyer Brook Trail was repaired after a section of boards had gotten broken. We are looking at doing a re-route around the boardwalk at some point.
  • We filled in the skidder ruts on Wagner Land between Rt 16 and Quill Hill. They had graded it after cutting in there but decided to go back in and make a winter road so we ended up leaving big ruts in the trail that needed to be fixed.
  • Wagner should be done the cutting by next week on the Canyon Trail. Right now it is closed Mon-Fri and opened Sat. and on Sundays. They have closed the Swamp Trail permanently.
  • Thank you to Joe Marcoux for cutting a new trail around a really rough section of the pole line behind Flagstaff Fuel.
  • We hope to be starting on the re-route on the Antler Hill trail within the next few weeks. Weyerhaeuser should be done cutting in there in a couple of weeks as well.
  • Our club members Darrin and Denise Soiett have two sons Kayden and Cameron that are in High School. Their school requires each student will need to complete 60 hours of community service between their freshman and senior year of school in order to receive senior privileges. Their school has approved volunteer work on our trails as community service. They both worked on the Carrabassett Bridges 10 hours as well as doing 14 ½ hours this past week while here on vacation. Along with their parents and Chris & Debbie Currier they trimmed, brushed and signed The Butler Brook Trail and some of the Carrabassett Trail. Thank you for all your help.
  • We will be going back in on Butler Brook as well to finish some clean-up work with draining mud holes and removing some rocks.

Our next monthly meeting is Sunday, August 11th at the Town Community Hall in Stratton at 10:00 a.m
