FLAGSTAFF AREA ATV CLUB

President's Notes
The meeting came to order at 10:00am and Don welcomed and thanked all for coming.  There will be another ride for "Toys for Tots" this year.  It is on September 29th, rain or shine.  Meet at McDonald's parking lot in Jay at 7:30am or at Jack's Logging in Farmington at 9:00am.  Registration will be from 8:00am to 9:45am.  Meal tickets will be handed out and poker hands will be dealt at this time.  The group will leave Jacks at 10:00am to ride to Canton where toys will be left off then on to Jay for the BBQ.  Please bring a new unwrapped toy or cash donation.  Last year there were 502 riders and they raised $10,500.  If you have questions please call Bob Dalot 897-2926, Brian Jordan 597-2700, Cris Currier at 441-5090 or Lisa Willett 557-3013. There was a motion made and passed to purchase 24 more of our fleece vests.  Don called Fish and Wildlife a couple of times and finally received a response about ATV registration fees and money going back to the town of origin.  As it stands now there is no provision for ATV registration fees.  It will take new legislation to allow this to occur.  The club will pursue more info at next weeks ATV Maine's meeting.  Don received an e-mail from Brian Bronson stating that Wayne Frankhauser will be in the Rangeley Area for a team building exercise and wanted to know if there was any work to be done for the snowmobile or ATV club. We suggested they help with a bridge to Carrabassett.  We are waiting for a response.  The Recreation Department of Eustis was happy to receive the canopy the club donated to them.  There was an article in the Irregular a few weeks back.  Don has been in contact with Rodney about another safety class.  He will get back to us shortly.  When we get the next date we will post it to the web site and around town via posters.  Please note that elections are in October of this year.  Our current president, Don Plante will not be running again and our secretary, Nancy Hanson will not be running again.  So think about whom you might want to nominate or if you would like to take on one of these seats.

Membership Chair's Notes
As of today we have 262 members of which 24 are sponsors.  We would like to thank Dennis Poussard of Peabody, MA for his generous donation of copy paper.  Many thanks also to Jeff Mercer from Peabody, MA for his help in getting our Trail Master back on line.  We would all like to wish our Trail Master, Dick Smith a Happy 70th Birthday.  Happy Birthday Dickie! We couldn't do it without you!

Treasurer's Notes
Bob went over the financials for the season.  A motion was made and passed to accept his report.  For more information on that please contact Robert Dennett.  The club is also waiting on our yearly grant of $5500.

Trail Master's Notes
Dick has had a lot of folks volunteer to help but it is impossible for him to contact everyone so if you would like to help with some trail work, please call Dick the night before and he will instruct you on where to meet him on the following day.
After the July 8th meeting Ruthanne and Dick fixed some of the box culverts on the Split Rock Connector, put in a culvert on the trail and a signpost at the junction at Split Rock.  July 9th, Dick picked up the junk wood at the Tim Pond Road bridge site and the 2 left over telephone poles.  July 12, Don and Dick delivered stock for box culverts to the End of Lake Trail, picked up a culvert cover on Bag Mountain and delivered to Plum Creek Trail.  They picked up a bridge of ours that was pulled out on Nash Stream and delivered to preserve land for future use.  July 13, Dick took stock to the Carrabassett connection for a boardwalk over the rock pile.  July 15, Neal Blaney and Dick started clearing the trail between Plum Creek Road and Route 27, (second leg).  July 16, Neal and Dick worked on the CV boardwalk and brush hogged some of the trail.  July 17, Neal, Don and Dick finished the boardwalk (first leg) and cleared some more of the trail and then went to the End of Lake and did 4 box culverts.  July 18, Neal and Dick finished brush hogging CV trail, put up 2 signposts and also signed Eustis Ridge Road for residents.  July 19, Don, Neal and Dick talked to Marlen Tate and he would like us to use End of Lake trail more then the road past his house.  Signed the Plum Creek Road and ordered lumber.  July 20, Neal and Dick put up more signs at Split Rock logging.  A skidder went over the bridge at the blue car and broke part of it off (timber and the ends of the planking).  Rode to Alder Stream and did some trimming.  July 21, Neal and Dick took out the floating corduroy at Tim Pond Road Trail then went to End of Lake and built 6 box culverts and 40' boardwalk.  July 25, Dick went to End of Lake and built 7 box culverts.  July 26, Don and Dick picked up our lift of lumber and stacked it ($1,090.26).  July 27, Don and Dick finished End of Lake Loop and opened the trail.  They went to Tea Pond Camps and met the High Cut Monkey Men, a club from Garland.  They had a great time and plan on coming back twice more this summer.  July 28, Dick finished signing and brushed out the rest of the End of Lake loop.  He added more logging signs to Split Rock Loop.  July 29, Dick put more caution signs for  logging on the Airport Road.  He took out the beaver pipes and iron poles and started clearing more of the 2nd leg of CV connection.  July 30, Dick cut and brush hogged ½ of the 2nd leg of CV connection.  August 1, Dick delivered stock and built first bridge on the 2nd leg of CV Trail. August 2,
Ruthanne and Dick cut, peeled and put in place the trees for the 2nd bridge and 2nd leg of the CV Trail.  August 3, Neal and Dick planked the 2nd bridge and 2nd leg of CV Trail.  August 5, Dick fixed some of the broken culverts on the Bugeye Trail, (a truck has been up the trail).  Dick put a patch on the boardwalk and checked Bag Mountain.  August 8, Dick finished putting the bumper rail on the 2nd bridge on the 2nd leg of CV Trail.  Dick talked with Brian Bronson about side by sides.  There is no law on them now but something should be decided this fall.  August 9, Dick brushed out the rest of the 2nd leg and started the boardwalk.  August 10, Dick took more stock to the 2nd leg and worked on boardwalk.  August 11, Neal and Dick finished boardwalk and signed that leg open.  They rode to Alder Stream and Tim Pond Bridge needs a boardwalk, there are deep mud holes on approach.

Vice President's Notes
Sandy did all the homework on the club becoming a nonprofit organization.  After much conversation the members voted to not pursue this any further.

The meeting adjourned at 11:25am and there were 18 members present.
