Mother's Day - May 13, 2007
President's Notes
Don started the meeting at 10:00am wishing all the moms a Happy Mother's Day. In late April we received a letter from LURC on zoning petition ZP-709, Kibby Wind Power Project. Don passed around the petition that has been reviewed by LURC. The plan proposed would allow development of a 132-megawatt wind farm consisting of 44 turbines and associated facilities in Kibby and Skinner townships. The transmission line would be located in Kibby Township, Jim Pond Township, Town of Eustis, Coplin Plantation, Wyman Township and Carrabassett Valley. Sent a letter to Congressman Michael Michaud showing our concern on ATV license revenues. He replied that he did not have the authority to direct state agencies and forwarded the letter to Governor John Baldacci. We then received a letter from the Governor saying that he can understand our frustration about the refunds from ATV registration. He's contacted the Commissioner's office at the Department of IF&W to review our request and to respond directly back to us with information and recommendations for recourse. Haven't received anything back from them at this time. When I receive the information it will be passed on to the club. These two replies will go in our records in the Town Office.
Membership Chair Person
Ruthanne reported that we are at 191 members of which 14 are sponsors.
Treasurer's Report
Bob reported we have two bills from ATV Maine to be paid in the amount of $1,150. A motion was made and passed to pay the bills. A motion was made and passed to accept the Treasurer's Report.
Safety Officer's Report
Rodney has a safety course to offer, June 16 - 17, 2007, from 9:00am - 5:00pm. The course will be at the Community Building at no charge. All you have to do is pack a lunch; ATV's are not needed for this course.
Trail Master's Report
Due to the concerns of saturated soil, we cannot promise to open the trails for the long Memorial Day weekend. The rain that is due this week will determine if it will be possible. We certainly hope it will work out for all of us that are anxious to get out and ride again. We are just now able to begin the work that must be done before we can open. As soon as we have an opening date it will be posted on our web site.
Dick asked for a dump trailer for the club at $1500.00. A motion was made and passed to give him the money and buy the trailer.
On April 10th Don and Dick went to the Kingfield ATV meeting to discuss their permit. They had not received it, seems there was a misunderstanding on when to send the check.
April 11th Dick talked with the water district and we made two changes to the trail across their land.
April 12th Dick talked to a Peter Gorman of Carrabassett about an alternative route near Huston Brook.
April 13th Don and Dick went to the snowmobile meeting. Cap and Quinny said they would fix the drainage on the connector trail and help with the gates.
April 20th, Dan Pepin took Dick for a fly-over of the Carrabassett route and we also checked the bridge in Alder Stream, it was fine.
April 23rd, Dick met with the Carrabassett selectmen about the route and using the paved part of the Carriage Road. They are setting up a public meeting on the 23rd of May at 6:30pm.
May 1st Dick and Al checked the Canadian Trail to the base of Indian Mountain and all looked O.K. Dick broke the Grizzly and Al had to tow Dick back.
May 2nd I met with the Nation Forester and we rode the new section of trail that we will use to get to the Carriage Road.
May 4th, Dick called Wagner and Plum Creek about progress on the new trails. We won't know until the end of the month.
May 5th, Mike Cain and I cleared and signed from the Irving to Tim Pond. It was very bad and took them 6 hours to go 11 miles. Lots of trees down, they filled a 100-pound grain bag full of trash from the winter.
May 7th, Dick put up three signposts and walked in to lock Brochu Bridge.
May 8th, Ruthanne and Dick delivered another map to Plum Creek. They went to the last Bigelow Preserve meeting and Dick thanked them for our connector.
May 9th, Dick made up 8 signposts for the intersections.
May 11th, Dick started putting in the cribbing for the Bugeye Boardwalk. Brian called and said Plum Creek gave us the loop at the end of the lake. Wagner was unable to give us anything this year.
May 12th, Mike Cain, Neal Blaney and Dick worked on rebuilding the Bugeye Boardwalk.
A motion was made and passed to give Dick $.40 a mile for gas. Another motion was passed to give Dick $1,000 for maintenance of the trail equipment. A motion was made and passed that the club would sell Strawberry Shortcake at Family Fun Days again this year.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:25am with 22 members present
