Presidents Report:  Edie Dunlap, breezy1@tdstelme.net

  • Moment of silence in Memory of Carl Dahms who worked a lot on the trails with our trail master.
  • Motion was made and carried to donate $100 for both of our members who have recently passed to charities of their choice.
  • Our club ride to Tim Pond on August 18th was well attended with 42 people. Weather was a little damp when we started but certainly helped on the dust! We enjoyed a great meal and good company. A motion was made and carried to give $100 to the annual Whistle Stop ATV Toy Run for the children in our county.
  • Our last club ride will be Saturday Sept 29th for our BBQ Picnic Cook-out and fall foliage trip with our friends, club members and guests. The club will furnish hamburgers/hotdogs like last year with members bringing side salads or desserts? Everyone bring what they want to drink and their own chairs. We will leave from Johnny’s Park & Ride at 9:30. Rain date for the ride will be the next Saturday Oct. 6th.
  • ATV Maine sent an e-mail the week prior to policy deadline telling members they had secured a new policy for members of ATV through a different company than V & V Insurance for $675. After talking to a member of ATV Maine it was determined that the coverage they were offering was substantial less than what we had last year. We had voted at our prior meeting to renew with V & V and after checking with the Board of Directors and all the officers the decision was made to stay with V & V this year.  Have invited ATV Maine to come to a meeting next year with a policy from their new carrier and we would look at it at that time.
  • No one from our club attended the last ATV Maine meeting as it was the same day as our ride to Tim Pond. ATV Maine’s next meeting is October 20th and will be held in Western Maine. Our guest Ed Zilinsky from ATV Maine asked if our club would be willing to host the October 20th meeting. Sandi volunteered to host it at the White Wolf if we had members that would make desserts and help with the setup, clean up and serving drinks etc. Members volunteered to help.
  • The second round of paperwork to the state for our grant was sent in. Total amount for labor, equipment and materials was $16,813. 76. If approved we should receive $11,769.63. Volunteer paperwork for 28 members /workers this past month. It is so amazing to have so many people step up to help us with the trails.

Vice President Report:  Sandi Isgro, sandi.whitewolf@gmail.com

  • Moose Loop still has a break in it so it will stay a Moose Trail for the time being. Lots of phone calls being made to see if we will be able to create a loop again.

Trail Master Report: Edie Dunlap, breezy1@tdstelme.net

  • Our newest trail maps now have a notice on them that no 2 wheel vehicles are allowed on our atv trails.
  • On August 19th we had 18 people who volunteered to work on brushing the really bad section of the Tim Pass Loop. In 4 hours it was completed. It was an awesome job and greatly appreciated.
  • Work on the Butler Brook Trail has been done over the past couple of weeks. With the help of 2 Kubota’s and a mini-excavator working 4 days –  water holes were drained, culverts were taken up and reset to below ground level, many water bars were done on the hills to prevent erosion on the trails, culverts removed from the woods and brought out to be taken care of.  Still have one culvert to install, and a little work to do on a bridge which should be finished this week.
  • Work on the Canyon Trail was finished up with the installation of a culvert just beyond where the new bridge was put in and water holes drained. Wood from an old bridge was picked up and brought out.
  • New bridge installed on the trail behind Flagstaff  Fuel, removed old culvert and trimming was done on that trail as well.
  • L. Brochu finished up the work from intersection 19 to the bridge. A little more work was done with a mud/water side area and some water bars.
  • AFM wanted us to finish taking care of the old boneyard trail to close it. Dale and Chris Currier spent two days in there with backhoe’s draining all the waterholes and fixing erosion on both ends of the trail. We will be going in with a mini-excavator and remove all the boardwalks, snowmobile and atv bridge along with another small bridge and culvert. Large rocks will be placed at both ends to keep the trail closed.
  • A damaged culvert by Intersection 18 was removed and a new one installed along with water bars on the hill draining down towards that culvert.
  • Trimming on the Swamp Trail has continued when time is available.
  • The new boneyard trail will have some work done on it in the next couple of weeks with drainage and water bars.
  • The boardwalk/bridges at the end of the Carrabassett Trail by 27 will need some work and Brian Bronson will be helping us with that as it is on State Land.
  • Brian Bronson has been working with Natanis on their trails up there. Hopefully we will be able to get that re-opened sometime next year along with the wind tower trail.
  • One of our members Cassandra Smith has used an app on her phone to map our trail system and insert waypoints where different problem areas are that need to be fixed. Having a map made up with this information on it would help volunteers to pick different areas near where they live to work on projects when they had some extra time.
  • Our guest speaker Brian Bronson talked about what the paper company’s expectations are with the trails going forward. They will require yearly maintance on the trails to keep them up to their specifications and how consolidating some of the trails for less mileage would help us in keeping up with everything. He also discussed how we are making head way in Natanis and hopefully will be able to get that trail opened back up next year.

Meeting was adjourned. Next meeting will be Sunday October 14th at the town hall at 10:00 a.m. in Stratton.
